Why this recipe works

These turmeric and ginger energy balls combine simple ingredients for a snack that’s both tasty and nutritious. Dates provide natural sweetness while the spices add warmth and a slight kick.

Turmeric contains curcumin, a compound with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Ginger contributes gingerols, compounds known for anti-inflammatory and digestive-soothing effects. Together, they elevate the nutritional value of these bites.

Made with nuts and dates, these energy balls deliver protein, fiber, and healthy fats while remaining gluten free, vegan, and free from refined sugar — a great on-the-go option.

Ingredients to make Healthy Energy Balls

Ingredients to make Healthy Energy Balls.
  • Almonds – add flavor, texture, fiber and protein.
  • Walnuts – contribute healthy fats and a complementary flavour.
  • Dates – natural sweetener; pit them before blending.
  • Ground ginger – soothing for the stomach and anti-inflammatory.
  • Ground turmeric – adds flavour and antioxidant benefits.
  • Water – a small amount to help bind the mixture.

See recipe card below for exact quantities.

Substitutions

  • Nuts: You can use only almonds or walnuts, or swap for cashews or pistachios. For a nut-free version, replace nuts with oats and a mix of seeds.
  • Sweeteners: Dried cranberries, apricots, or raisins work instead of dates. Liquid sweeteners like maple syrup, honey or agave can be used if preferred.

Variations

  • Deluxe: Fold in raisins, cranberries, or chopped dried apricots for more texture and flavor. Roll finished balls in desiccated coconut for a polished look.
  • Kid friendly: If the spices are too intense for children, increase the dates slightly and reduce turmeric and ginger. Add a chocolate chip to each ball for a kid-approved treat.
