Chocolatey Fig & Pecan Brownies — perfect for a weekend bake or when you’re watching the bake-off and want a free-from treat you can actually eat.
I love baking with figs in season. They turn irresistibly sweet and gooey, and they add a lovely texture and flavor to these brownies.
This recipe is included in my round-ups of the Best 33 Vegan Desserts and 35 Gluten Free Desserts.
These brownies are:
- Deeply chocolatey
- Perfectly sweet
- Incredibly simple
- Ready in under 30 minutes
- And above all — delicious
They use just eight ingredients and are gluten free, dairy free, egg free and refined sugar free.

These brownies are very straightforward to make: simply add all the ingredients to a large mixing bowl and stir until you have a smooth, creamy chocolate batter. It’s tempting to taste it at this stage, but try to resist!

If you’re baking with kids, they’ll love helping to mix and press the toppings into the batter.

Pour the batter into a lined baking tray — I used a 10″ x 7″ tray — and arrange sliced figs and pecans on top, pressing them gently into the batter.
If you don’t like figs or pecans, feel free to swap in other toppings or nuts. Be creative — chocolate chips, walnuts, or sliced bananas would all work well.

Here are a few close-ups to tempt you. Bake until set around the edges but still slightly gooey in the center if you prefer a fudgy texture.
